How Many Pageviews Do You Need to Make a Full-Time Income Blogging – The real answer to the questions about making money blogging that you want to know!

Other than how to start saving more money, how to make money blogging is the second most popular question I hear. And for a good reason! I started blogging in August 2015 and am making more than $12,000 each month from my blog! It's amazing and is the best job ever (in my opinion 😉 ).

But from the beginning, I wanted to know how long it was going to take to make a full-time income blogging. I wanted to know exactly how many pageviews I needed to make a full-time income from my blog. And no one was sharing that kind of info.

Here's the real deal: making money blogging doesn't happen overnight and it takes a lot of time and effort to build up to that point. So I'm going to lift the veil on the behind-the-scenes world of blogging to share with you how many pageviews you need to make a full-time income blogging.

Before we go anywhere, I want to make sure that you're setting your expectations up for success from the start.

1. Blogging is NOT a get-rich-quick scheme.

You are not going to be making millions of dollars the month that you start blogging. The bloggers who make $100,000 a month are the exceptions, not the rules.

More than 90% of bloggers make $0 from their blogs. EVER.

2. Blogging is REAL work.

My grandmother still doesn't understand what it is that I do that makes money on the internet. My mom still warns me about strangers on the internet. And my dad doesn't get how I can make money on Pinterest. Even my husband doesn't understand how I make money each time I send an email.

But it's REAL work.

OK, now that we've got those 2 big things out of the way, let's get to the good stuff.

"How many pageviews do you need to make a full-time income blogging?"

Short answer: Around 100,000 monthly pageviews.

Mid-length answer: There are plenty of people who have less than that (by a LOT) making a full-time income, and there are people with 100,000+ pageviews who make almost nothing at all.

And here's why there are so many different answers to this. All bloggers make money in different ways.

Here are the main ways to make money as a blogger:

Display ads
Affiliate income
Selling their own products
Sponsored content
Directly aid for ads on their site.

There are other ways to make money (like monthly membership sites, etc.) but those are the big ones. They are the ways to make money that most bloggers use. And every blogger uses a varying degree of all of those types of income to make up their total income.

That's why it's important to know how many pageviews each month do you need to make a full-time income. You can use each pageview to contribute to your income in so many ways.

1. The more pageviews you have, the more you will make from ads.

The way that ads work on blogs is that you get paid per thousand pageviews to your site. For AdSense, it's something like $2 per thousand pageviews. But if you're working with Media.net or AdThrive.com, you're looking at closer to $10-20 (depending on the time of year) per thousand pageviews! That's a huge jump in how much money you're making.

Plus, when you have 100,000 pageviews in a month, you can get into those great as networks like AdThrive that will only approve you once you exceed 100,000 monthly pageviews.

If you aren't getting a lot of pageviews, you will not be able to rely on ad income to get you through the month (although you shouldn't do that anyway). That's why it's important to diversify!

2. The more pageviews you have, the more likely people are to see your affiliate links.

You can't get people to buy from your affiliate links if they never see your posts. One of the biggest things that you can do when a post goes viral is to throw as many applicable affiliate links into the post.

The same idea holds true for just regular posts, too. If you want people to buy from your affiliate links, they need to see them!

The more pageviews you have, the more likely people are to buy from you just based on the sheer volume of eyes on your posts.

Now, that's not to say that you can't make money with a small audience and a very keyed down message for an affiliate post. BUT, if you only have 5 people visiting your site each month, it's going to be hard to make money with affiliates… no matter how great that post is.

3. Sponsors will be more likely to work with you if your stats are great. (And you can charge more, too!)

The more pageviews you have in a month, the more legitimate you are to brands. Which means that they will be more likely to want to work with you, but will also pay you more for it.

(Pro tip: don't just accept free products as payment for your post. Your time is more valuable than that.)

Getting just one sponsored post each month could make you between $500 and 1,000 depending on the product, shares, etc. But it would be very hard to make that kind of money from just one sponsored post when your audience is smaller. Brands want to get their money's worth for your posts and promotion, and they just won't see that kind of return on investment (ROI) for a smaller audience.

4. You can grow your email list faster with more pageviews.

This should be the #1 reason that you want to know how many pageviews do you need to make a full-time income blogging! Once you get people to sign up for your email list, you've got a direct line to help them, sell to them, bring them into your community, and more.

Your goal once you get those people to your site is to get them to subscribe to your email list. You can do this by offering a great and relevant freebie to giveaway when they give you their email.

It's hard to grow an email list (even one where you know your audience and their needs VERY well) when you have very few pageviews.

Good news/ bad news time about how many pageviews is takes to make a full-time income blogging.

The bad news: Blogging takes time and effort to make money. It won't happen overnight.

The good news: When you start making money and seeing your traffic taking off, you know that your foundation is solid thanks to how long you've been making great content.

Trust me when I say this: You DO NOT WANT your first post to go viral! You want a post to go viral once you have enough content on your site for people to become fans of yours!

Think about it. If you went to a site and there was NOTHING there but just one post, you'd read the post and leave… and probably never come back.

You don't want that to happen to your site! You want your readers to get hooked on your writing and your story and jump from post to post reading more and more of your content. Then you want them to follow you on social media and subscribe to your email list. And you want them to WANT to hear more from you!

None of those things will happen until you have been working hard at blogging for a while. People won't have posts to click over to. They won't have an email list to subscribe to. You might not even have a facebook page up and running yet.

The pageviews will come as you write more, produce more great content, and work at becoming a better and better blogger as you grow.

You will work for free for a while. Yes, it sucks. But it will be worth it all if you can stick it out and make it work. Trust me!
